I did consider that actually, but decided that I liked the blue best!

Yes, this is costing quite a bit. Don't really want to go into it but keep in mind that I received a payout from my insurers for the agreed value and all of that has been spent on the repairs, plus a little more!

Barbalatte wrote:Did you speak with Enzo or George? They are one of the best in Sydney. I raced Alfa's with Enzo.

I dealt with Enzo - he was very helpful but obviously a busy man. I would have no issues in recommending them though.

She's booked to leave Sydney next Monday so hopefully I'll have her back this time in two weeks, it only took about 5 days to get across to Sydney so I'm hoping it only takes 5 on the way back. Very keen for a cruise now Franco! Hows the exhaust coming along?

Thanks buddy, I'm going to struggle to let this one go when the time comes, very attached now!

Might be out of topic here. but do you know if autodelta is better than cileberti motors? i've always only been to barbagallo during warranty period and decided to give cileberti motors and their prices was a lot better than barbagallo. have not tried autodelta yet so i was just curious. :?:

Having a car written off in this way is probably the best way to actually make money! You get the pay out figure lets say market value, about $23,000. Buy the wreck back for $2,000-$3,000. And fix the car, lets say $10,000. Your still about $10,000 in front!

I know people that did this often....

Yeah but doesn't the car get listed on the written off vehicle register (once insurance has paid you out and obviously deemed the car a write off). I was very worried about this when i was hit from behind by the taxi as it was a fairly new car back then and i thought it would be listed as a repairable write off, then repaired and given back to me but was informed that this only happens when your claim is paid out by your insurance company.

I don't know how it works but does this affect resale value or does it not leave any record of it being written off since you have bought it back yourself?

Nice work though and also very courageous to take on a project like this especially with having the work done interstate. Hopefully she will be perfect when you get her back 8)

I did this sort of estimate prior to having the car repaired. I can see how it would work in some circumstances, but I won't be making any sort of profit on the GTA and I'll be struggling to break even.

My car was deemed a repairable write-off and it will be recorded as a repairable write-off on the REVS register. I did consider this prior to restoring it and came to the conclusion that I probably would not have repaired it if there was any sort of structural damage, but in my case the hail damage was purely cosmetic and quite fixable.

In terms of resale, it will probably affect the value of the car but not sure by how much. Shannon's was happy to re-insure it for the market value though which I was pleased about. I plan on keeping it for a while and maybe turning it in to a bit of a track weapon one day!

Fantastic, congratulations on putting effort into saving a beloved Alfa rather than giving up and going with something else.
